贊曰。人情莫不欲壽。促算而求安養。非欣厭之極乎。雖然發願可也。赴海投崖。而疊薪自燼。則魔矣。

In praise: It is human nature to desire longevity; to curtail one's allotted lifespan to seek Peaceful Nourishment—is this not the culmination of delight [in the Pure Land] and revulsion [for the world]? Nonetheless, making such a vow is permissible; jumping into the sea, leaping from cliffs, or piling firewood to incinerate oneself, however, is demonic.
