Fayin of the Song lived at Guangshou Temple in Siming. For thirty years he kept his mind silently absorbed in the Pure Land. Later he fell ill, gathered the assembly to recite the Guan jing, and chanted the Buddha's name for three nights. He said to his disciples: "I am about to depart." Someone requested a farewell verse, so he wrote: / "Amitābha and I are fundamentally not two; / Yet both duality and non-duality are completely transcended. / Now, seeing Amitābha in this way, / The sympathetic resonance and communion of the Way are inconceivable." / Straightening his body, he sat upright and passed away.
