Falin of the Jin dynasty was a native of Linqiong. Devoting himself strictly to the categories of precepts, he resided at Lingjian Temple in Chengdu to cultivate pure karma. He constantly recited the two sūtras of Amitābha and Avalokiteśvara. Whenever he recited them, he always saw a monk of imposing appearance standing towering before him. In the second year of Jianwu, he fell ill, focused his thoughts on the Western Direction, and ceaselessly practiced prostrations of repentance. He saw the sages and saints all gathering in mid-air, joined his palms, and passed away.
