1.53

齊慧光。居洛陽。著華嚴涅槃十地等疏。妙盡權實之旨。一日有疾。見天眾來迎。光曰。我所願歸安養耳。已而淨土化佛。充滿虛空。光曰。惟願我佛攝受。遂我本願。即彈指罄咳。言氣俱盡。

Huiguang of the Qi dynasty resided in Luoyang. He authored commentaries on the Avataṃsaka, the Mahāparinirvāṇa, and the Daśabhūmika, wondrously exhausting the meanings of the provisional and the real. One day, falling ill, he saw a heavenly host coming to welcome him. Guang said, "My wish is only to return to Peaceful Nourishment." Soon after, the Pure Land's nirmāṇabuddhas filled the empty sky. Guang said, "I only pray that my Buddha will embrace and receive me, fulfilling my pūrvapraṇidhāna." Thereupon he snapped his fingers and cleared his throat; his speech and breath ceased together.
