隋慧成。居枝江。誦彌陀經。修西方觀三十年。常坐不臥。每入定見淨土蓮臺寶樹。臨終之夕。人夢成坐蓮花。隱隱西去。

Huicheng of the Sui dynasty resided in Zhijiang. He recited the Amitābha Sūtra and cultivated contemplation of the Western Direction for thirty years, constantly sitting without lying down. Whenever he entered concentration, he saw the lotus daises and jeweled trees of the Pure Land. On the evening of his death, people dreamt that Cheng, seated on a lotus flower, was fading into the distance toward the west.
