In the Great Ming, Mother Chen, née Zhu, was a native of Jiading in Wu Commandery, the wife of Layman Junchuan. Filial and compassionate by nature, she was always devoted to the Three Jewels. At age eighty-one, her son returned from visiting Yunqi and guided her to practice buddhamanasikāra for rebirth. She thereupon set her resolve earnestly on pure karma. After two years, she manifested illness. Three days before her death, someone called Mother's name loudly three times in front of the hall. Mother said: 'Two youth in blue are here.' At that time, she had been weakened and exhausted by illness for long, but suddenly leapt up, straightened her spine, and sat upright. Her sons urged her to rest, whereupon she passed away in an auspicious posture. They received her corpse in the central hall and laid it facing upward; the corpse turned by itself to face west. Everyone was startled and amazed, taking it to be brought about by her utmost sincerity.
