11.18

益州應天和尚。僧問。人人有佛性如何是和尚佛性。師曰。汝喚什麼作佛性。僧曰。恁麼即和尚無佛性也。師乃叫快活快活。

Upādhyāya Yingtian of Yizhou. A monk asked: “Everyone possesses Buddha-nature. What is the Upādhyāya’s Buddha-nature?”
The Master said: “What do you call Buddha-nature?”
The monk said: “Then the Upādhyāya has no Buddha-nature.”
The Master thereupon cried out: “Delightful! Delightful!”
