12.62

韶州昌樂縣黃連山義初號明微大師。問三乘十二分教即不問。請師開口不答話。師曰。寶華臺上定古今。曰如何是寶華臺上定古今。師曰。一點墨子輪流不移。曰學人全體不會。請師指示。師曰。靈覺雖轉空華不墜。問古路無蹤如何進步。師曰。金烏遶須彌。元與劫同時。曰恁麼即得達於彼岸也。師曰。黃河三千年一度清。廣南劉氏嚮師道化。請入府內說法僧問。人王與法王相見時如何。師曰。兩鏡相照萬像歷然。曰法王心要達磨西來。五祖付與曹溪。自此不傳衣鉢。未審碧玉階前將何付囑。師曰。石羊水上行。木馬夜翻駒。僧曰。恁麼即我王有感萬國歸朝。師曰。時人盡唱太平歌問如何是佛。師曰。胸題卍字背負圓光。僧問如何是道。師展兩手示之。僧曰。佛之與道相去幾何。師曰。如水如波。

Yichu, Great Master Mingwei, of Mount Huanglian in Changle County, Shaozhou. A monk asked, "Setting aside the twelve divisions of teachings of the three vehicles, I request the master to open his mouth without answering in words." The master said, "On the precious flower terrace, the past and present are settled." The monk asked, "What is settling the past and present on the precious flower terrace?" The master said, "A single spot of black ink rotates without shifting." The monk said, "The student completely fails to understand; please instruct me." The master said, "Though spiritual awareness turns, the flowers in the sky do not fall." The monk asked, "On the ancient path there are no tracks; how can one advance?" The master said, "The golden crow circles Mount Sumeru, originally contemporaneous with the kalpa." The monk said, "In that case, one can reach the other shore!" The master said, "The Yellow River clears once in three thousand years." The Liu clan of Guangnan admired the master's religious teaching and invited him to the government manor to expound the Dharma. A monk asked, "When the human king and the Dharma King meet, how is it?" The master said, "Two mirrors illuminating each other, the myriad forms distinct." The monk said, "The essential mind of the Dharma King was brought by Bodhidharma from the West, and the Fifth Patriarch transmitted it to Caoxi. From then on, the robe and bowl were not handed down. I do not know, in front of the jasper steps, what will be bequeathed?" The master said, "A stone sheep walks upon the water; a wooden horse overturns its foal at night." The monk said, "In that case, our king has resonance, and the myriad states submit to the court." The master said, "The people of the time all sing songs of great peace." A monk asked, "What is the Buddha?" The master said, "On his chest is inscribed the svastika; on his back he bears a halo." A monk asked, "What is the Way?" The master opened both hands and showed them to him. The monk asked, "How far apart are the Buddha and the Way?" The master said, "Like water and waves."
