14.22

潭州華林和尚。僧到參方展坐具。師曰。緩緩。僧曰。和尚見什麼。師曰。可惜許磕破鍾樓。其僧大悟。

Upādhyāya Hualin of Tanzhou.
A monk arrived to study and was spreading his sitting mat.
The Master said, “Gently, gently.”
The monk said, “What does the Upādhyāya see?”
The Master said, “What a pity—knocking into and breaking the bell tower!”
The monk was greatly enlightened.
