14.33

本童和尚。因門僧寫師真呈師。師曰。此若是我更呈阿誰。僧曰。豈可分外。師曰。若不分外汝却收取這箇。僧便擬收。師打云。正是分外彊為。僧曰。若恁麼即須呈於師。師曰。收取收取。

Upādhyāya Bentong. Once, a disciple monk painted the Master's portrait and presented it to the Master. The Master said, "If this is me, to whom else will you present it?" The monk said, "How could it be outside one's share?" The Master said, "If it is not outside one's share, you take this back." The monk was about to take it. The Master hit him and said, "This is precisely acting forcibly outside one's share." The monk said, "If so, then it must be presented to the Master." The Master said, "Take it back! Take it back!"
