16.21

石霜輝禪師（第三世住）僧問。佛出世先度五俱輪。和尚出世先度何人。師曰。總不度。曰為什麼不度。師曰。為伊不是五俱輪。問如何是和尚家風。師曰。竹筯瓦椀。

Chan Master Hui of Shishuang (abbot of the third generation). A monk asked, "When the Buddha appeared in the world, he first liberated the five companions. When the upādhyāya appears in the world, whom do you liberate first?" The Master said, "I do not liberate anyone at all." [The monk] said, "Why do you not liberate them?" The Master said, "Because they are not the five companions." [The monk] asked, "What is the upādhyāya's house style?" The Master said, "Bamboo chopsticks and an earthenware bowl."
