20.37

韶州華嚴和尚。問既是華嚴還將得來麼。師曰。孤峯頂上千華秀。一句當機對聖明。問如何是道。師曰。靈樹無橫枝天機道合同。

The Upādhyāya of Huayan in Shaozhou. [A monk] asked, "Since it is Huayan (Flower Adornment), can you bring it forth?"
The Master said, "A thousand flowers bloom atop the solitary peak; / A single phrase in accord with the moment faces the sagely illumination."
[The monk] asked, "What is the Dao?"
The Master said, "The numinous tree has no horizontal branches; / In natural mechanism, the Dao accords."
