21.36

福州東禪契訥禪師上堂曰。未曾暫失全體現前。恁麼道亦是分外。既恁麼道不得向兄弟前。合作麼生道。莫無道處不受道麼。莫錯會好。僧問。如何是現前三昧。師曰。何必更待道。問己事未明乞師指示。師曰。何不禮謝。問如何是東禪家風。師曰。一人傳虛萬人傳實。

Chan Master Qine of Dongchan in Fuzhou ascended the hall and said, "Never lost for a moment, the entire body is manifest before you. To speak thus is already extraneous. Since one cannot speak thus, how should one speak before the brothers? Could it be that where there is nothing to say, one does not accept speech? Do not understand mistakenly." A monk asked, "What is the samādhi manifest before us?" The Master said, "Why must you wait for speech?" A monk asked, "My own matter is not yet clear; I beg the Master to instruct me." The Master said, "Why do you not bow in thanks?" A monk asked, "What is the house style of Dongchan?" The Master said, "One person spreads falsehood; ten thousand people transmit it as truth."
