21.40

撫州永安院懷烈淨悟禪師上堂眾集。師顧視左右曰。患謇作麼。便歸方丈。又一日上堂良久曰。幸自可怜生。又被污却也。又曰。大眾正是著力處莫容易。僧問。怡山親聞一句請師為學人道。師曰。向後莫錯舉似人。

Zen Master Huailie Jingwu of Yong'an Monastery in Fuzhou entered the hall and the assembly gathered. The master looked left and right, and said, "Why do you suffer from stammering?" He then returned to the abbot's quarters. Another day he entered the hall, paused for a good while, and said, "Originally it was quite pitiable; now it has been defiled again." He also said, "Great assembly, this is precisely the place to apply effort; do not take it lightly." A monk asked, "Having personally heard a phrase from Yishan, please speak it for this student." The master said, "Hereafter, do not cite it mistakenly to others."
