21.49

越州清化山師訥禪師僧問。十二時中如何得不疑不惑去。師曰好。僧曰。恁麼則得遇於師也。師曰。珍重。有僧來禮拜。師曰。子亦善問吾亦善答。僧曰。恁麼即大眾久立。師曰。抑逼大眾作什麼。問去却賞罰如何是吹毛劍師曰。錢塘江裏好渡船。問如何是西來意。師曰。可殺新鮮。

Zen Master Shine of Mount Qinghua in Yuezhou. A monk asked, "Throughout the twelve periods of the day, how can one be free of doubt and confusion?" The master said, "Good." The monk said, "In that case, I have encountered the master." The master said, "Take care." A monk came and bowed. The master said, "You also ask well, and I also answer well." The monk said, "In that case, the great assembly has been standing for a long time." The master said, "Why oppress the great assembly?" [A monk] asked, "Setting aside reward and punishment, what is the sword that cuts a blowing hair?" The master said, "A fine ferry boat on the Qiantang River." [A monk] asked, "What is the meaning of the coming from the West?" The master said, "Utterly fresh."
