僧問。十二時中。如何得不空過。師云。爾向甚處著此一問。僧云。學人不會。請師舉。師索筆成偈云。舉不顧即差互。擬思量何劫悟（傳燈）。

A monk asked, "Throughout the twelve periods of the day, how can one avoid passing them in vain?"
The master said, "Where do you place this single question?"
The monk said, "I do not understand. I invite the master to bring it up."
The master called for a brush and composed a gāthā, saying:
"When brought up, if you do not look, you immediately diverge;
If you intend to deliberate, in what kalpa will you awaken?" (From Chuandeng [lu]).
