22.73

韶州舜峯韶和尚。初問雲門和尚。寶月為什麼於此分輝。雲門曰。千光同照。師曰。謝和尚指示。雲門曰。見什麼。僧正入師方丈乃曰。方丈得恁麼黑。師曰。老鼠窟。僧正曰。放猫兒入好。師曰。試放看。僧正無對。師拊掌笑。師與老宿渡江次。師取錢與渡子。老宿曰。囊中若有青銅片。師揖曰。長老莫笑。

Upādhyāya Shao of Shunfeng in Shaozhou. He initially asked Upādhyāya Yunmen, "Why does the precious moon divide its radiance here?" Yunmen said, "A thousand beams shine together." The master said, "I thank the Upādhyāya for pointing it out." Yunmen said, "What do you see?" A Monk Rector entered the master's abbot's quarters and said, "How can the abbot's quarters be so dark?" The master said, "A rat's hole." The Monk Rector said, "It would be good to let a cat in." The master said, "Try letting one in and see." The Monk Rector had no reply. The master clapped his hands and laughed. While the master was crossing a river with an elder master, the master took out coins to pay the ferryman. The elder master said, "If you have copper pieces in your pouch..." The master bowed with hands clasped and said, "Elder, do not laugh."
