24.62

洛京長水紫蓋善沼禪師。僧問。死中得活時如何。師曰。抱鎌刮骨熏天地。炮烈棺中求託生問才生便死時如何。師曰。賴得覺疾。

Chan Master Shan’zhao of Zigaishan in Changshui of the Western Capital. A monk asked, "What is it like when one obtains life in the midst of death?" The Master said, "Holding a sickle to scrape bones, fumigating heaven and earth; exploding within the coffin to seek rebirth." The monk asked, "What is it like when one dies just as one is born?" The Master said, "Fortunately, the awakening was swift."
