24.63

眉州黃龍繼達禪師。僧問。如何是衲。師曰。針去線不迴。曰如何是帔。師曰。橫鋪四世界。竪蓋一乾坤。曰道滿到來時如何。師曰。要羹與羹要飯與飯。問黃龍出世金翅鳥滿空飛時如何。師曰。問汝金翅鳥還得飽也無。

Chan Master Jida of Huanglong in Meizhou. A monk asked, "What is the patched robe (nà)?" The Master said, "The needle goes, and the thread does not return." The monk said, "What is the mantle (pèi)?" The Master said, "Horizontally spread across the four realms; vertically covering heaven and earth." The monk said, "What is it like when one's attainment of the Way is full and arrives?" The Master said, "If soup is wanted, soup is given; if rice is wanted, rice is given." The monk asked, "When Huanglong appears in the world and the garuḍas fly filling the sky, what is it like?" The Master said, "I ask you, did the garuḍa get full or not?"
