24.73

婺州雙谿保初禪師示眾曰。未透徹不須呈。十方世界廓然明。孤峯頂上通機照。不用看他北斗星。僧問。九夏靈峯劍請師不露鋒。師曰。未拍金鎖前何不問。僧曰。千般徒設用。難出髑髏前。師曰。背後礙殺人。

Chan Master Baochu of Shuangxi in Wuzhou instructed the assembly, saying, "Before penetrating through, there is no need to present it; / The worlds of the ten directions are vast and clear. / On the crest of the solitary peak, the functioning illumination penetrates; / No need to look at the Northern Dipper star." A monk asked, "The sword of the Lingfeng of nine summers—please, Master, do not expose its edge." The Master said, "Before clapping the golden lock, why did you not ask?" The monk said, "A thousand kinds of efforts are applied in vain; / It is hard to escape before the skull." The Master said, "From behind, it obstructs people to death."
