24.78

朗州大龍山楚勛禪師（第四世住）上堂良久曰。大眾只恁麼各自散去。已是重宣此義了也。久立又奚為然。久立有久立底道理。知了經一小劫如一食頃。不知道理便見茫然。還知麼。有知者出來。大家相共商量。時有僧出展坐具曰。展即遍周沙界。縮即絲髮不存。展即是不展即是。師曰。爾從什麼處得來。曰恁麼即展去也。師曰。勿交涉。問如何是大龍境。師曰。諸方舉似人。曰如何是境中人。師曰。爾為什麼謾我。問亡僧遷化向什麼處去也。師曰。阿彌陀佛。僧問。善法堂中師子吼。未審法嗣嗣何人。師曰。猶自恁麼問。

Chan Master Chuxun of Mount Dalong in Langzhou (the fourth generation to reside there) ascended the hall, and after a long silence said, "If the great assembly just disperses in this way, that has already proclaimed this meaning again. Why stand for a long time? Yet standing for a long time has its principle of standing for a long time. Once known, passing through a minor kalpa is like the time of a single meal; not knowing the principle, one is then at a total loss. Do you know? If there is anyone who knows, step forth, and let us deliberate together!" At that time a monk came forth, spread his sitting cloth, and said, "Unfurled, it encompasses the sands of the world; folded up, not a thread of hair remains. Is it right to unfurl it, or is it right not to unfurl it?" The Master said, "Where did you get this from?" The monk said, "Then I will unfurl it." The Master said, "No connection!" The monk asked, "What is the realm of Dalong?" The Master said, "Brought up and related to people in all directions." The monk said, "Who is the person within the realm?" The Master said, "Why do you deceive me?" The monk asked, "When a deceased monk passes away, where does he go?" The Master said, "Amitābha Buddha." The monk asked, "A lion's roar in the Hall of the Good Dharma—I wonder, whose Dharma heir are you?" The Master said, "Still asking like this!"
