杭州臨安功臣院道慈禪師。問師登寶座大眾咸臻請師舉揚宗教。師曰。大眾證明。上座曰。恁麼即亘古亘今也。師曰。也須領話始得。

Chan Master Daoci of Gongchen Cloister in Lin'an, Hangzhou. [A monk] asked, "The Master ascends the jeweled seat and the great assembly has all gathered; we ask the Master to promote the ancestral school." The Master said, "The great assembly bears witness." The sthavira said, "In that case, it spans antiquity and spans the present." The Master said, "You must still grasp the words before it will do."
