杭州臨安光孝院道端禪師。僧問。如何是佛。師曰。高聲問著。曰莫即便是也無。師曰。勿交涉。師後住靈隱寺示滅。

Chan Master Daoduan of Guangxiao Cloister in Lin'an, Hangzhou. A monk asked, "What is the Buddha?" The Master said, "Ask in a loud voice!" [The monk] said, "Could it be just this, or not?" The Master said, "No connection." Later, the Master resided at Lingyin Temple, where he manifested his passing into cessation.
