台州天台山紫凝普聞寺智勤禪師。僧問。如何是空手把鋤頭。師曰。但恁麼諦信。曰如何是步行騎水牛。師曰。汝自何來。師有頌示眾曰。

Chan Master Zhiqin of Zining Puwen Temple on Mount Tiantai in Taizhou. A monk asked, "What is 'with empty hands holding the hoe'?" The Master said, "Just have sincere faith like this." [The monk] asked, "What is 'walking on foot riding the water buffalo'?" The Master said, "Where have you come from?" The Master had a verse of instruction for the assembly, saying:
