越州剡縣清泰院道圓禪師。僧問。亡僧遷化向什麼處去也。師曰。今日遷化。嶺中上座問。如何是祖師西來意。師曰。不可向汝道庭前柏樹子。

Chan Master Daoyuan of Qingtai Courtyard in Shan County, Yuezhou. A monk asked, "Where has the deceased monk passed away to?" The master said, "Today he has passed away." A sthavira from the ridges asked, "What is the intention of the ancestral teacher coming from the west?" The master said, "I cannot say to you: the cypress tree in front of the courtyard."
