27.45

死魚浮於水上。有人問僧。魚豈不是以水為命。僧曰是。曰為什麼却向水中死。無對（杭州天龍機和尚代云。是伊為什麼不去岸上死）。

A dead fish was floating on the water. Someone asked a monk, "Doesn't a fish have water as its life?" The monk said, "Yes." The person asked, "Then why did it die in the water?" The monk had no reply. (Upādhyāya Tianlong Ji of Hangzhou gave the substitution: "Why didn't it go and die on the shore?")
