27.66

鹽官會下有一主事僧。將死鬼使來取。僧告曰。某甲身為主事未暇修行。乞容七日得否。使曰。待為白王。若許即七日後來。不然須臾便至。言訖去。至七日後方來覓其僧不見。後有人舉問一僧。若來時如何抵擬他（洞山代云。被他覓得也）洞山會下有老宿去雲巖迴。洞山問。汝去雲巖作什麼。答云。不會（洞山自代云。堆堆地）。

In Yanguan's assembly there was an administrative monk. When he was about to die, a demon messenger came to take him. The monk reported, "I have been an administrator and have had no leisure to practice. May I beg a reprieve of seven days?" The messenger said, "I will report this to the King for you. If he permits, I will come after seven days; if not, I will arrive in a moment." Having spoken, he left. Only after seven days did he return, but he searched for the monk and could not find him. Later someone cited this and asked a monk, "When he comes, how will you resist him?" (Dongshan spoke in his place: "He was found by him.") A senior monk in Dongshan's assembly returned from Yunyan. Dongshan asked, "What did you go to Yunyan to do?" He replied, "I do not understand." (Dongshan spoke in his place: "Heaping up and motionless.")
