29.10

世間幾許癡人。將道復欲求道。廣尋諸義紛紜。自救己身不了。專尋他文亂說。自稱至理妙好。徒勞一生虛過。永劫沈淪生老。濁愛纏心不捨。清淨智心自惱。真如法界叢林。返生荊棘荒草。但執黃葉為金。不悟棄金求寶。所以失念狂走。強力裝持相好。口內誦經誦論。心裏尋常枯槁。一朝覺本心空。具足真如不少。

How many foolish people in the world, / Taking the Way, again seek the Way! / Widely searching for various meanings in great confusion, / They cannot even save their own bodies. / Exclusively seeking others' writings and speaking wildly, / They proclaim themselves to possess the supreme, wondrous principle. / In vain they pass their whole lives in emptiness, / Through eternal kalpas sinking into birth and old age. / Tainted love entangles their minds without release, / The pure mind of wisdom torments itself. / In the jungle of the Dharmadhātu of True Suchness, / Thorns and wild weeds grow instead. / They merely cling to yellow leaves as gold, / Not realising they discard gold to seek treasure. / Therefore, losing mindfulness, they run wildly about, / By forceful effort adorning themselves with the major marks. / Their mouths recite sūtras and śāstras, / While their hearts are ever withered and dry. / Once they awaken to the original mind being empty, / Complete with True Suchness, nothing is lacking.
