29.11

聲聞心心斷惑。能斷之心是賊。賊賊遞相除遣。何時了本語默。口內誦經千卷。體上問經不識。不解佛法圓通。徒勞尋行數墨。頭陀阿練苦行。希望後身功德。希望即是隔聖。大道何由可得。譬如夢裏度河。船師度過河北。忽覺床上安眠。失却度船軌則。船師及彼度人。兩箇本不相識。眾生迷倒羈絆。往來三界疲極。覺悟生死如夢。一切求心自息。

Śrāvakas sever delusion thought after thought, / But the mind that can sever is a thief. / Thieves sequentially expelling thieves— / When will they understand the fundamental speech and silence? / Their mouths recite a thousand fascicles of sūtras, / Yet when questioned on their own substance, they do not recognize the sūtras. / Not understanding the complete penetration of the Buddha-Dharma, / In vain they trace the lines and count the ink. / The dhūtas and araṇya ascetics / Hope for merit in future lives. / Hope is itself separation from the holy; / How can the Great Way ever be attained? / Like crossing a river in a dream, / The ferryman carries one across to the north bank; / Suddenly awakening, one lies peacefully in bed, / Having lost the methods of the ferry boat. / The ferryman and that person being ferried / Fundamentally did not know each other. / Sentient beings are deluded, overturned, and fettered, / Fatigued to the utmost going and coming through the three realms. / Awakening to birth and death as like a dream, / All seeking minds naturally cease.
