5.42

無端起知解　著相求菩提
情存一念悟　寧越昔時迷
自性覺源體　隨照枉遷流
不入祖師室　茫然趣兩頭

"Without cause, I aroused views and understanding, / Clinging to marks and seeking bodhi.
With feelings retaining a single thought of awakening, / How could I surpass former delusions?
The self-nature is the substance of awakening's source; / Following illumination, it uselessly drifted.
Had I not entered the Patriarch's room, / I would be bewildered, running toward the two extremes."
