8.31

洞安和尚。有僧辭師。師云。什麼處去。僧云。本無所去。師云。善為闍梨。僧云。不敢不敢。師云。到諸方分明舉。僧侍立次。師問。今日是幾。僧云。不知。師云。我却記得。僧云。今日是幾。師云。今日昏晦。

Upādhyāya Dong'an: A monk took leave of the master. The master said, "Where are you going?" The monk said, "Fundamentally there is nowhere to go." The master said, "Take good care, ācārya." The monk said, "I would not dare, I would not dare." The master said, "When you arrive in the various quarters, explain it clearly." While the monk was attending by his side, the master asked, "What day is it today?" The monk said, "I do not know." The master said, "I, on the contrary, remember." The monk said, "What day is it today?" The master said, "Today is overcast and dark."
