8.59

座主聞偈欣然仰歎。居士所至之處老宿多往。復問醻皆隨機應響。非格量軌轍之可拘也。元和中北遊襄漢隨處而居或鳳嶺鹿門。或𮠔肆閭巷。初住東巖後居郭西小舍。一女名靈照。常隨製竹漉籬令鬻之以供朝夕。有偈曰。

Hearing the verse, the lecturer joyfully admired and praised him. Wherever the upāsaka went, venerable elders often visited him; their exchanges and responses all answered immediately according to the potential, beyond the confinement of rules, measures, or tracks. During the Yuanhe era, he traveled north to Xianghan, dwelling wherever he went: sometimes at Fengling or Lumen, sometimes in bustling markets and neighborhood lanes. At first he lived at Dongyan, and later resided in a small cottage west of the outer city wall. He had a daughter named Lingzhao, who constantly accompanied him, weaving bamboo strainers and having him sell them to provide for their daily needs. He composed a verse, which went:
