At the age of twenty-four, he expounded the teaching for the assembly at Fengcheng in Hongzhou, and at that time was called the Little Elder. During the Xiande era of the Zhou dynasty, the ruler of Jiangnan invited him to reside at Guangmu. A monk asked, “What is the great way?” The master said, “I have no small path.” The monk asked, “What is a small path?” The master said, “I do not know of any great way.” The master next resided at Kaixian on Mount Lu, and later at Jingde, gathering disciples and expounding the Dharma at both. In the eighth year of the Kaibao era, he passed away into silence.
