Chan Master Kuangjie of Luohan in Yingzhou. A monk asked, “What is the sword that cuts a blowing hair?”
The master said, “Finished.”
[A monk] asked, “A hundred years after the upādhyāya has passed away, if suddenly someone asks where the upādhyāya has gone, how should one respond?”
The master said, “Later on, when encountering an adept, bring it up clearly.”
[The monk] said, “Who is one who knows the tune?”
The master said, “One who knows the tune would not ask like that.”
[A monk] asked, “What is the realm of Luohan?”
The master said, “The ancient appearance of pines and junipers.”
[A monk] asked, “How is it when one chisels a hole in the wall to steal light?”
The master said, “Wrong.”
[The monk] said, “What can be done about an earnest will and a focused mind?”
The master said, “Wrong, wrong.”
