Chan Master Jingzhao Huitong of Fengxian Temple in Shengzhou was a native of Weifu. His surname was Zhang. At a young age he left home, paying homage to Chan Master Weizhi of Beichan Monastery in Raozhou to receive tonsure. Having reached full age, he received the full precepts under Vinaya Master Xicao of Fuzhou, and attained the Dharma under Qingliang. A monk asked, "'Only the single firm and dense body appears within all dust.' It is also said: 'The Buddha's body fills the Dharma realm, appearing universally before all living beings.' Between these two paths, please speak, Master." The Master said, "Only the single firm and dense body appears within all dust." A monk asked, "What is the mind of the ancient Buddhas?" The Master said, "Which one do you doubt is not?" [A monk] asked, "What is the person who is constantly present?" The Master said, "Whom else are you asking about?"
