Chan Master Qingyu of Fengxian Temple in Hangzhou was a native of Yongjia. He obtained the Dharma from the Tiantai National Preceptor. King Zhongyi of Wuyue summoned him to the palace to ask about the Way, and ordered the Military Commissioner Xue Wen to build a great monastery by the West Lake named Fengxian, erecting a great pavilion for Buddhist treasures and inviting the Master to reside there and propagate the essential principles of the school, granting him the title Chan Master Yuantong Miaojue. A monk asked, "What is the meaning of the coming from the west?" The Master said, "Citing it in a loud voice, present it to the great assembly." During the Kaibao era, the Master passed away at his home temple.
