A monk asked Upādhyāya Yuantong, "When a single speck of dust rises, the whole earth is contained within it. Do you still see the meditation couch?" Yuantong said, "What do you call a speck of dust?" The monk also asked Fadeng, who said, "What do you call a meditation couch?" (Dongshan Qi said, "Did these two venerable elders clarify where his question was coming from, or not clarify where his question was coming from? If they clarified where his question was coming from, was it completely accomplished or not? Try to decide. If you suddenly say to him, 'You instruct me; I still want an answer,' how would you understand it? Do not say you will give another turning word.")
