Chan Master Huaizheng of Dongyi in Langzhou. Yangshan came to call on him. The master asked, "Where are you from?" Yangshan said, "A man of Guangnan." The master said, "I hear that Guangnan has an ocean-calming bright pearl; is that so?" Yangshan said, "It is so." The master said, "What shape and appearance does this pearl have?" Yangshan said, "When the bright moon comes, it appears." The master said, "Did you bring it with you?" Yangshan said, "I brought it." The master said, "Why do you not present it for this old monk to see?" Yangshan said, "Yesterday, when I arrived at Mount Gui, he also demanded this pearl from Huiji; in the end, I had no words to answer and no principle to proclaim." The master said, "Truly a lion's whelp! A great lion's roar!"
