Upādhyāya Guti of Langzhou, whenever he saw a monk arrive, would customarily say, "Go! You have no Buddha-nature!" The monks had no reply; or if any replied, none matched his purport. One day, Yangshan Huiji came to call on him. The master said, "Go! You have no Buddha-nature!" Ji crossed his hands, stepped forward, and answered, "Yes!" The master laughed and said, "Where did you attain this samādhi?" Ji said, "I attained it from Guishan." Ji asked, "From whom did the Upādhyāya attain it?" The master said, "I attained it from Zhangjing."
