10.21

洪州翠嵓廣化惠空禪師。僧問。如何是道。師曰。荒田不揀。云莫便是和尚為人處麼。師曰。量才補職。示眾曰。昨日雨霖霖。今朝日杲杲。文殊與普賢。全身入荒草。賴得王老師夜來眠起早。拈起拄杖曰。來也來也。不見道春無三日晴。下座。

Chan Master Huikong of Guanghua at Cuiyan in Hongzhou. A monk asked, 'What is the Way?' The Master said, 'Wild fields are not picked over.' The monk asked, 'Might that be the Upādhyāya's way of guiding people?' The Master said, 'Measuring talent to assign office.' He addressed the assembly, saying, 'Yesterday rain poured incessantly; today the sun shines brightly. Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra have entered entirely into the wild grass. Fortunately, Old Teacher Wang went to sleep and rose early last night.' Raising his staff, he said, 'It comes! It comes! Have you not heard: in spring there are not three sunny days in a row?' He stepped down from the seat.
