11.15

饒州崇福清雅禪師。僧問。如何是崇福境。師曰。磬敲寒月夜。香炷白雲朝。云如何是境中人。師曰。僧是僧俗是俗。云向上更有奇特事也無。師曰。毘盧頂上金冠子。云重重蒙指示。千古為流芳。師曰。笑殺旁觀者。

Chan Master Qingya of Chongfu in Raozhou. A monk asked, "What is the environment of Chongfu?" The Master said, "The chime stone is struck on a cold moonlit night; the incense stick burns on a morning of white clouds." [The monk] said, "What is the person within the environment?" The Master said, "A monk is a monk; a layperson is a layperson." [The monk] said, "Is there still an extraordinary matter beyond this or not?" The Master said, "A golden crown atop the head of Vairocana." [The monk] said, "Repeatedly receiving your instruction, its fragrance will flow down through a thousand ages." The Master said, "This brings roaring laughter to the bystanders."
