蘇州翠峯山洪禪師。僧問。如何是翠峯境。師曰。秖聞鶯鳥語。不見報春來。問如何是祖師西來意。師曰。堪嗟立雪僧。

Chan Master ShanHong of Mount Cuifeng in Suzhou. A monk asked, "What is the environment of Cuifeng?" The Master said, "One only hears the oriole's song, but does not see spring arrive to announce it." He asked, "What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?" The Master said, "One can only sigh for the monk standing in the snow."
