11.70

福州支提昭愛禪師。僧問。如何是佛。師曰。牛兒不識虎。問如何是和尚家風。師曰。臂長衫袖短僧云。忽遇客來如何。師曰。離中虛坎中滿。

Chan Master Zhao'ai of Zhiti in Fuzhou. A monk asked, "What is the Buddha?" The Master said, "A calf does not recognize a tiger." He asked, "What is the upādhyāya's house style?" The Master said, "The arm is long, but the sleeve of the robe is short." The monk said, "If a guest suddenly arrives, what then?" The Master said, "Li is hollow in the middle; Kan is full in the middle."
