廬州北天王崇勝益禪師上堂曰。靈源澄寂動靜一如。萬法本空隨緣而照。方圓任器應用無私。亘古亘今了然自在。所以在天旋之不動。在江注之不流。寂而不凝動而不亂。運用千般隱無滯礙。然雖如是。爭奈祖宗門下總用不著。敢問諸人。且道衲僧有什麼奇特處。乃拈拄杖橫按膝上曰。會麼。七星光燦爛。舉動耀乾坤。卓一下又曰。宗門祖令徒自緘言坐斷妙峯一口吞盡黃河倒瀉。崑崙鐵牛橫行宇宙。到這裏却須有出身一路。良久曰。玉馬嘶時金斗轉。金雞啼處日光生。參。

Chan Master Yi of Chongsheng at Northern Tianwang in Luzhou ascended the hall and said, "The spiritual source is pure and still, movement and stillness are as one. The myriad dharmas are fundamentally empty, illuminated in accordance with conditions. Adapting to square or round vessels, application is impartial. Clear and unhindered from eternity to the present. Therefore, in the heavens it revolves without moving; in the river it flows without washing away. Still without freezing, moving without confusion. Myriad kinds of operation, hidden without hindrance. Even though it is like this, what can be done about the fact that none of this can be used within the patriarchal house? I venture to ask you all: what extraordinary thing does a patch-robed monk possess?" He then held up his staff, laid it across his knees, and said, "Do you understand? The seven stars shine brilliantly; their movement illuminates heaven and earth." Striking once, he said, "The patriarchal orders of our lineage vainly keep their mouths shut; sitting across the wondrous peak, one swallows the Yellow River flowing backward in a single gulp. The iron ox of Kunlun strides across the universe. Arriving here, one must have a way out." After a long pause, he said, "When the jade horse neighs, the golden ladle turns; where the golden rooster crows, sunlight is born. Participate!"
