12.48

南京法寶德一禪師。僧問。大眾雲臻請師說法。師曰。諦聽諦聽。僧云。一回聞得一回新。師曰。爾作麼生會。僧云。諦聽諦聽。師曰。也是殘羹餿飯。問如何是睢陽境。師曰。車馬門前有。塵埃堂上無。云如何是境中人。師曰。時延三島客。長接五湖僧。珍重。

Chan Master Deyi of Fabao in Nanjing. A monk asked, "The great assembly gathers like clouds; please, Master, preach the Dharma." The Master said, "Listen carefully, listen carefully!" The monk said, "Hearing it once, it is fresh once." The Master said, "How do you understand it?" The monk said, "Listen carefully, listen carefully!" The Master said, "This too is leftover soup and spoiled rice." The monk asked, "What is the realm of Suiyang?" The Master said, "Carriages and horses are before the gate; dust and dirt are not in the hall." The monk asked, "Who is the person within the realm?" The Master said, "Regularly entertaining guests from the Three Islands; constantly receiving monks from the Five Lakes. Take care!"
