13.42

福州長慶惠暹文慧禪師。僧問。離上生之寶剎。登延聖之道場。如何是不動尊。師曰。孤舟載明月。曰忽遇㯭棹俱停又作麼生。師曰。漁人偏愛宿蘆花。問長期進道。西天以蠟人為驗。未審此間以何為驗。師曰。銕彈子。曰意旨如何。師曰。大底大小底小。

Chan Master Wenhui Huixian of Changqing in Fuzhou. A monk asked, "Leaving the precious monastery of Tusita and ascending the bodhimaṇḍa of Yansheng, what is the Immovable Honoured One?" The master said, "A lone boat carrying the bright moon." The monk asked, "What happens if all at once oars and sculls both cease?" The master said, "The fisherman especially loves sleeping amidst the reed flowers." The monk asked, "For advancing in the Way during a prolonged period, in the Western Heavens they take a wax person as proof; what is taken as proof here?" The master said, "An iron bullet." The monk asked, "What is the meaning?" The master said, "The big ones are big; the small ones are small."
