Chan Master Shifo Miyin Xiaotong of Yuezhou. A monk asked, "What is the stone Buddha?" The master said, "Head bearing heaven, feet treading on earth." The monk said, "Is there anything beyond this?" The master said, "Though it passes through frost and snow, it does not change its former countenance." He then said, "The Supreme Way is profoundly void—what governs the myriad things? True emptiness leaves no trace; the Dharma realm is just as it is. If you can be mindless in the face of conditions, whatever meets the eye is nothing other than the Way." After a long pause, he said, "Day and night it radiates light, illuminating existence and non-existence; fools call it pāramitā. Investigate!"
