14.38

舒州太平慧燈禪師。僧問。如何是太平境。師曰。多年三級塔未老萬株松。云如何是境中人。師曰。一不曾齋。乃曰。太平知見麥裏有。麵厨庫對僧。堂三門對佛。殿喝一喝。

Chan Master Huideng of Taiping in Shuzhou. A monk asked, "What is the environment of Taiping?" The Master said, "An ancient three-tiered pagoda; ten thousand pines that never age." [The monk] said, "What is the person within the environment?" The Master said, "One who has never had a noon meal." He then said, "Taiping's view: there is flour in the wheat; the kitchen storehouse faces the monks' hall; the triple gate faces the Buddha hall." He gave a shout.
