19.24

柳州宜章圓明希古禪師。上堂曰。天地無四壁。日月無四時。暑往寒來風恬浪靜。古今天地古今山河。情與無情皆承恩力。不用南詢諸祖。北見文殊。古佛廟前。此時參畢。見箇什麼。良久曰。也是迷逢達磨。

Chan Master Xigu of Yuanming at Yizhang in Liuzhou. He ascended the hall and said, "Heaven and earth have no four walls; the sun and moon have no four seasons. Heat departs and cold comes; the wind is calm and the waves are tranquil. Ancient and present heaven and earth, ancient and present mountains and rivers—the sentient and the insentient all receive the power of grace. There is no need to travel south to inquire of the patriarchs, or travel north to see Mañjuśrī. Before the temple of the ancient Buddha, the inquiry is now completed. What do you see?" After a long pause, he said, "This too is meeting Bodhidharma in confusion."
