19.25

通州狼山文慧禪師。僧問。和尚未見淨慈時如何。師曰。鐵牛生角。云見後如何。師曰。石馬懷胎。問如何是祖師西來意。師曰。海雲生嶽頂。云學人不會。師曰。楊子水朝東。

Chan Master Wenhui of Mount Lang in Tongzhou. A monk asked, "What was it like before the Upādhyāya saw Jingci?" The Master said, "The iron ox grew horns." The monk said, "What about after seeing him?" The Master said, "The stone horse became pregnant." The monk asked, "What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?" The Master said, "Ocean clouds arise at the mountain peak." The monk said, "The student does not understand." The Master said, "The waters of the Yangzi flow east."
